PSP & Nintendo DS

Posted in Console Games by Diggory

PSP

Well - Sony have unveiled the PSP. It looks very much like the concept shot that came out a while ago.

Nice round-up of the details here.

Built-in 802.11b is interesting.

I can’t see myself buying one though - I simply don’t use portable games any more - I got a GameBoy as soon as they were available in the UK, and I loved it. I’ve got a GBA but never use it.

The PSP will apparently be available in the UK in 2005.

Great Slashdot comment:

My N-Gage just scuttled back into the comforting environment of my pocket. I think it’s crying.

Nintendo have also shown their upcoming mobile hardware:

DS

Game & Watch 2004… um, I mean the Nintendo DS.

I’m playing Gameboy to exclusion of anything else at the moment playing Advance Wars with 2 or more players is really cool and Wario Ware inc. is perfect for filling those waiting for 60 seconds for a bus tpe situations. I have to say I’m not particularly convinced that either of these new devices will offer much to better those two games, playing Tony Hawk or Timesplitters on such a small screen whilst on a train doesn’t really appeal in the same way as a thoughtful game of advance wars or civilization on my laptop. However wireless Pokemon could be very cool and it seems the main function of the second screen on the nintendo might be as a track pad/touch screen thingy which could provide some novel playing experiences. Nintendo DS… I choose you!

The PSP just looks to damn cool. I’ll reserve any judgment until I see some actual titles in play though.

i think that the ds is will wipe the floor with the pspfor three reasons:1the psp has a lot of faults and is liable to crashing.2the ds has touch screen teck and picto chat(completly new ideas)and 3 sony have no experience in mobile gaming.

Don’t forget that Sony had no experience in Console Gaming when the PS1 was released - that was quite successful.

everyone knows the psp is better. The reason your trying to put people off buying it ny saying bad things about it is. You bought the ds when it came out but then u had never heard of the psp so now u feel really bad that u cant get a psp.

think about it the psp plays music , dvds and games. so what if it has only got a 5 hour battery life. you would be nuts to play a handheld console for more than an hour in a row. well fair enough if u want glases. plz who wants to control a fake dog when u can have a real one. the game graphics on the ds are horendus. (by the way i just floged my ds for a tenna on ebay thats all its worth for me). You say the games r the same as the ps2 on psp but think about it duh heads they r the games we like. And well do u know when ur down ur aunties and u wish u could play on your ps2 but ur parents will not let u take it there. Now u can play it wherever. By the way u must be totally sad to play the games on the ds like pokemon, nintendogs and urbz. Anyway if ur planing on having a ds for xmas just change ur mind and get a psp. also id like to add if u r worried about the batterie life of the psp visit my website http://www.arfonparry.co.uk and i will give you a device which means u can play 20 hours of anything games, music or films. Website is open febuary 2006. i want as many replys as possible to this thankyou.

Wow - Arfon, thanks for the …um, strident comments, I had remove some of them as they were duplicates or un-decipherable.

    Any chance of spelling properly?
