JavaC Script

Posted in Software by Diggory

I don’t code for Java, but someone wanted a script that would compile Java from within SubEthaEdit and it sounded interesting, so I wrote one.

One of the clever things about SubEthaEdit is that it allows multiple people to edit the same document at the same time.

So if you’re the kind of person that hacks away at Java sources in a flock I suggest you download it ;)

The Getaway

Posted in Console Games by Diggory

The Getaway was apparently meant to be a release title for the PS2. It was coded at Sony’s Soho Studios in London. In fact it was released about three years later – quite late, but not surprisingly so, since they had mapped most of Central London’s streets into a computer game. They must have taken tens of thousands of digital stills – the Game looks amazingly detailed. (See TheRealGetaway) Of course not every street (or building) is there.

Tim Berners-Lee

Posted in The Web by Diggory

There is a stream of Tim Berners-Lee’s Talk at the Royal Society here.

It’s excellent – Mainly about RDF. Which I’d heard about before, but never really understood what it was for.

Mmmm meta-data for the net.

replacing the iPod battery

Posted in Hardware by Diggory

My iPod is one of the 1st generation – a mere 5GB ;)

The Battery life is now quite bad – about two hours playing or overnight on standby.

Lase Blane

Posted in Real World by Diggory

So – David Blane is living in a plastic box above the Thames for 40 days (or something equally stupid.) Unsurprisingly Londoners aren’t reacting to his Showmanship in quite the same way as New Yorkers did to his Pole Standing (they thought it was amazing – we Throw eggs and flash him)

This evening it should get even more fun – I read in NTK that FARK are organising a flash mob who will point lasers at him.

Update: – Well I watched it on Sky – A bit of a damp squib. There were a lot of people there, but only one (or two?) lasers (Green interestingly.)

UKR Updated

Posted in Console Games by Diggory

Once you’ve become addicted to RSS it’s very annoying when a site doesn’t support it. Especially when the site updates are irregular and infrequent

Make sure you’re sitting down for the employee of the week ;)

No UncleClive updates to report.

All the way back…

Posted in Coding / Development by Diggory

I was looking through my audio CDs looking for old CDs to rip that I had previously overlooked. I came across this:

you can see more of them here:

Ah – that sends me back – 1990 – AppleTalk networking and HyperCard ;)

The CD sleeve notes are quite funny in a “Thank God for USB / FireWire” kind of way :

Hang On Lads – I think I’ve got an idea. Ummm…

Posted in Films by Diggory

I was invited to a screening of the new Italian Job film by BMW (because I bought a new Mini).
I hate to say it, but I enjoyed it. Maybe because it was free – maybe because I assumed that it was going to be very bad.

What would Jim Robinson think?

Posted in Televison by Diggory

Neigbours news:

Holly Valance (Flick) is being sued by Scott Michaelson (Brad)

Alas no Kylie (Charleen) or Natalie Imbruglia (Beth) news to make the post truly complete, Although Beth did go out with Brad.

Oh, by the way – In case you are wondering, this is Jim Robinson

Well not really – he’s an actor called Alan Dale – You might know him as the scheming Vice-President from series two of “24″.

mmm, Chips

Credit Card companies have relied on a magnetic strip combined with a signature for security for years. That’s not really good enough – and it hasn’t been for years.

Well – I have installed Movable Type again – Almost one year after my initial install. Hopefully this time my post count will rise above one per year.
